STREET RACERS’ RECKLESSNESS: Racing Luxury Supercars Blow Red Light, Slam Innocent Pickup, 84-Year-Old In Critical Condition

RENO, Nev. — Two high-powered sports cars turned a routine Saturday night drive into a nightmare of twisted metal and shattered lives when their drivers raced through a red light and plowed into a family pickup truck carrying six people, including an 84-year-old woman now fighting for her life.

The violent wreck happened just before midnight on June 20 at the intersection of South McCarran Boulevard and South Rock Boulevard in East Reno.

Reno police say the drivers of an Audi RS5 and a Porsche 911 GTS were locked in a high-speed street race heading south on McCarran when both cars blew the red light at Rock Blvd. and slammed into a lawfully traveling red Toyota pickup.

Catastrophic damage ripped through all three vehicles. Every occupant of the pickup, six people total, was rushed to the hospital. The 84-year-old remains in critical condition. The juvenile driver of the Porsche and the adult driver plus passenger of the Audi were also transported for treatment.

Harrowing video footage shared on social media captures the terrifying final moments: bright headlights blazing as the two cars rocket toward the intersection, followed by the sickening crunch of impact that sends the red pickup spinning amid a cloud of dust, debris, and flashing red traffic lights.

Reno Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the case. The busy intersection was shut down for hours while crews cleared the wreckage.

Street racing has plagued Reno for years, but this crash, involving a teen behind the wheel of a Porsche, highlights the deadly gamble these speed demons take with innocent lives every time they hit the gas.

The victims were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The racers? They chose to turn a public road into their personal drag strip.
