A viral clip shows an entitled content creator standing in the middle of the moving stairs, forcing commuters to squeeze past before swift justice arrives.
A TikToker who turned a busy New York City escalator into his personal film set got exactly what a lot of fed-up riders have been dreaming about.
The now-viral video, posted Thursday and already racking up millions of views, shows a young man in a gray T-shirt and dark pants standing completely still in the center of the escalator. Commuters are forced to awkwardly navigate around him on both sides as he films what the on-screen text calls “this new trend in New York.”
Just as the rider reaches the bottom, a no-nonsense guy in a white T-shirt and blue shorts has seen enough. He walks straight up, delivers a loud, open-hand slap to the side of the TikToker’s head, and keeps moving like it’s just another day in the city.
The slapped creator, watermarked @ANDYGOTTAGO, in the clip, looks stunned as the escalator keeps rising. Most people around him barely break stride.
The clip has sparked the usual debate about influencer culture vs. basic respect for shared spaces. But for plenty of New Yorkers who’ve had to dodge phones, tripods, and dancing content creators on subways and sidewalks, the slap felt like long-overdue payback.
