A wild video of a Nigerian pastor dramatically draping his massive purple robe over kneeling church members, including women, has gone mega-viral and left social media in total meltdown.
The unidentified clergyman, dressed in a flowing purple gown with a bright yellow sash and gold cross necklace, is seen in the middle of what appears to be a charismatic service. On-screen text flashes: “RECEIVE UNLIMITED GRACE AND BREAKTHROUGH.”
Instead of a normal prayer or laying on of hands, the pastor lifts the voluminous skirt of his robe and completely covers several congregants underneath it while holding a microphone close and praying intensely. The members stay crouched or kneeling as he engulfs them in the garment for several moments.
The clip, which first circulated heavily on Nigerian social media before exploding across X, Instagram and Facebook, has racked up millions of views in just days.
The dramatic act appears to be a form of “mantle impartation”, a symbolic ritual some charismatic and prophetic churches use, drawing from biblical stories of spiritual covering like Elijah’s cloak. Supporters say it’s a powerful way to transfer anointing and breakthrough blessings. Critics say it looks more like something out of a horror movie than a house of worship.
The church itself hasn’t been publicly identified, but the service has all the hallmarks of a lively Nigerian Pentecostal or independent prophetic ministry, complete with members in white robes, dramatic preaching, and high-energy worship.
