Shocking footage from a UK town centre shows multiple officers in high-vis vests desperately grappling with a resistant suspect who simply refuses to be brought under control. The chaotic scenes unfold on a busy pavement near an Iceland supermarket, with the man fighting back every step of the way as officers push, pull and attempt to take him down near the railings.
The struggle drags on, with one officer ending up on the ground as they try, and appear to struggle mightily, to subdue him. It's a sorry spectacle that raises serious questions about the state of law enforcement in this country.
And then, the perfect symbol of modern Britain: a woman strolls past with her Iceland shopping bag, barely batting an eyelid at the disorder unfolding right beside her. Life goes on, the public has switched off, and the police look completely out of their depth.
The video, captioned "Wait for it" when posted on X, has rightly gone viral because it captures a pattern that's becoming all too familiar. Time and again, we see forces quick to come down hard on law-abiding citizens, often white Brits who dare to speak out or find themselves on the wrong side of the narrative. Yet when it comes to controlling those who actually pose a challenge and resist, the response looks weak, hesitant and ineffective.
This isn't isolated. Many viewers will see this and think of the growing complaints about two-tier policing: heavy-handed with some, apparently powerless with others. Officers who should command respect and authority instead find themselves in undignified scrambles that do little to deter crime or reassure the public.
We still don't know the full circumstances of this arrest attempt. What we do see is the visible reality: prolonged resistance met with a struggle that drags on far longer than it should, while the public has become desensitised to the disorder.
Britain's streets deserve proper policing – not this. If officers can't efficiently handle situations like this, public confidence will continue to collapse. It's time the authorities stopped the selective approach and focused on restoring real law and order for everyone, before these embarrassing scenes become the norm rather than the exception.
