A pink-haired customer at a no-nonsense Charlotte breakfast spot thought she could walk away with a free replacement order by claiming her takeout was damaged.
She got served a heaping plate of reality instead.
The wild scene played out at Maria’s Grill on West Sugar Creek Road in the Derita neighborhood. The family-owned spot has been slinging home-style breakfast and lunch since 2008.
According to the viral video making the rounds, the woman first grabbed her order but immediately complained that staff gave her unsweetened tea instead of sweet tea. She reportedly had to make multiple trips back inside.
A short time later she returned again, this time demanding a full replacement because her food containers were supposedly damaged.
What she didn’t realize? The restaurant had her dead to rights on surveillance.
Exterior camera footage captured the customer dropping the bag herself outside the restaurant, causing the damage she was trying to pin on the staff.
Even after being told they had the entire incident on video, she refused to back down and kept arguing with the manager, according to accounts of the confrontation.
The clip, which includes the woman’s own footage of her complaints mixed with the restaurant’s “gotcha” moment, has racked up hundreds of thousands of views online after being shared on X.
Maria’s Grill addressed the drama directly on Facebook last month, calling the woman out in blunt terms.
“A few days ago you may have seen us in a viral clip from a Temu version of a social media influencer. Happy to say, the results are in and she is a liar,” the restaurant posted, thanking loyal customers for their support.
The brazen attempt at a freebie has left people shaking their heads at the level of entitlement on display and cheering the restaurant for not folding.
At Maria’s Grill, it turns out the cameras don’t lie… even if some customers do.
