A popular American fitness YouTuber has died in a shocking drowning incident in Thailand after witnesses described a wild, erratic outburst at a luxury rental home.
Connor Michael Murphy, 32, from Texas, was pulled from a lake in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province on July 7, 2026. Thai authorities say the bodybuilder and content creator, known to 2.3 million followers for his shredded physique and viral stunts, had been acting bizarrely before he ran into the water and never came back up.
Police and rescue divers recovered Murphy’s body about 20 meters offshore in water more than 10 meters deep. No signs of foul play or assault were found on the body, which was located roughly 30 minutes after he disappeared beneath the surface.
According to local reports from ThaiRath and other outlets, Murphy had rented a high-end home in a luxury residential estate for around 35,000 baht a month. Witnesses and video captured him acting erratically earlier that day, including trying to hand money to a driver, approaching cars while yelling, rolling around on the asphalt, and making praying motions.
When officers responded to reports of the disturbance, Murphy reportedly bolted into the village and straight into the nearby lake. He kept swimming until he was exhausted and went under.
Paint was reportedly splattered throughout the interior of the luxury rental home he had been staying in.
Murphy built a massive following on YouTube with over-the-top fitness transformations, prank videos, and his signature “fake shirt trick” video from 2016 that racked up tens of millions of views. He was one of the early faces of the looksmaxxing and extreme fitness era on the platform, later shifting into more spiritual and philosophical content.
His death has sent shockwaves through the fitness community, with fans and fellow creators posting tributes, old clips, and speculation online.
An autopsy and further tests are pending to determine the exact cause of death. Thai police have said they will notify the U.S. Embassy. No official statement has been released yet by Murphy’s family or representatives.
The tragic incident comes as a stunning end to the once-bigger-than-life fitness influencer who turned his body into his brand and his life into viral content.
