A group of reckless partiers, mockingly dubbed "scholars" online, allegedly trashed a high-end Airbnb by launching fireworks inside the home, turning a swanky rental into a smoke-filled disaster zone complete with explosions, shattered surfaces and debris everywhere.
Shocking cellphone video circulating on X shows the chaos unfolding in what appears to be a modern vacation rental with dark wood floors, white marble counters and upscale finishes. One individual in a pink sweatsuit is seen hunched over a white kitchen island, fiddling with a lit firework as others mill about. Moments later, bright flashes erupt, thick smoke billows through the rooms and fireworks streak across the frame like indoor missiles.
The 18-second clip, which has racked up thousands of views, captures the madness from multiple angles, including from a staircase railing looking down into the living area.
Explosions light up the space in bursts of white and orange, sending sparks flying while debris litters the once-pristine floors. A young man with a large afro wearing a white T-shirt stands casually near the damaged kitchen counter as the destruction continues. Another frame reveals a massive chunk of the white countertop broken off, exposing the wooden base underneath, with trash, wrappers and remnants scattered across the hardwood.
Similar horror stories have plagued Airbnb hosts around holidays. Just weeks ago, reports emerged of college kids owing thousands after similar fireworks-fueled rampages, with one viral Instagram post highlighting guests who lit off explosives indoors and left the place in ruins.
Airbnb has ramped up its anti-party AI tools ahead of Independence Day to flag risky bookings and prevent exactly this kind of nightmare, deterring thousands of potential bookings nationwide. But as this latest video proves, determined revelers still find a way.
