WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appeared to cut a massive fart live on the Senate floor Tuesday while ripping into President Trump’s handling of the Iran war, and the viral clip is already being called “Tootgate.”
The 75-year-old New York Democrat was in the middle of a fiery speech blasting the National Defense Authorization Act and Trump’s comments comparing the current conflict to Vietnam when the unmistakable sound erupted.
“Now on Iran and the NDAA,” Schumer said, pausing as the loud “brappppp” echoed through the chamber. He briefly looked down, suppressed a smirk, then plowed ahead with his attack: “When all the Trump administration can say about his disastrous war with Iran is that Vietnam was worse...
Oh my God!”C-SPAN viewers and staffers couldn’t miss it. The clip, isolated and blasted out by The Blaze and RNC Research, exploded across social media within hours.
Schumer’s office did not respond to a request for comment on the flatulent faux pas.
The moment comes as Schumer, a 75-year-old fixture in Washington, continues to lead Senate Democrats in opposition to Trump’s agenda. Critics immediately used the awkward audio to renew calls for congressional term limits.
“At least he finally passed something,” one wag tweeted.
