A Lowell police officer was left with a concussion after getting assaulted in a chaotic early-morning brawl outside a downtown nightclub that left multiple people injured and two under arrest.
The mayhem erupted around 1:16 a.m. Sunday outside the Tescobar Performance Center on Middlesex Street following an after-party event billed as “Raised in the 978: Lowell Folk Fest After Party.”
Radio transmissions captured the urgency as an officer called for backup, yelling that they were assaulting an officer and requesting three ambulances. “We’ve got one under arrest and we have five down,” the officer reported. “I don’t know their injuries yet.”
Sources said the battered officer was taken to Lowell General Hospital with a concussion. One of the two people arrested was described as “uncooperative” and also transported to a hospital.
Social media video circulating from the scene shows the raw chaos: officers trying to break up the fight amid a crowd, people on the ground, debris scattered, and police flashlights cutting through the night. One clip includes mocking overlays calling out a fighter’s “strength of 10 Hercules” and declaring “this is why Lowell can’t have nothing nice.”
City Manager Tom Golden didn’t mince words. “My first thought is for the safety of the professionals of the Lowell Police Department,” he said. “This type of behavior will not be tolerated. Establishments that create this type of environment are not welcomed in Lowell.”
Tescobar, which opened in late 2024, has a track record of trouble. Police previously cited the venue for liquor license violations tied to earlier assaults and other issues. Lowell cops routinely post units near certain downtown spots at closing time because of repeated problems.
The event was not affiliated with the official Lowell Folk Festival, organizers stressed, even though promoters used the name.
Two arrests were made and the scene was eventually cleared, including a nearby garage where officers pushed crowds out. But the videos keep spreading, showing just how ugly the night got on Middlesex Street.
