A Russian soldier back from the front decided the best way to impress a bunch of neighborhood kids was to pull the pin on a grenade and toss it right in their courtyard.
The wild footage, filmed in a residential complex in Kazan in 2023 and now making the rounds again, shows the man in military fatigues sitting with a woman when a group of children approaches. He offers them a shot at setting off what turns out to be a stun (noise/flashbang) grenade. The kids wisely decline.
Undeterred, the soldier yanks the pin himself, hurls the device off-camera, and waits. A thunderous boom follows almost immediately. Car alarms up and down the block start screaming. The soldier throws his arms up like he just scored the winning goal.
One furious woman is having none of it. She wheels around and unleashes a full-throated Russian tirade, calling him every name in the book and suggesting people like him shouldn’t be walking around free. The soldier, suddenly looking a lot less triumphant, mumbles an apology and insists it was “just a sound grenade” and no one got hurt.
No injuries were reported. The explosion was loud enough to set off multiple vehicle alarms and send nearby residents into a panic, but the device was not a fragmentation grenade.
The clip first surfaced in September 2023 and has been recirculated periodically ever since, usually under captions claiming the kids “persuaded” the soldier to throw a live grenade for fun. In reality, the children refused and the soldier did it on his own
.Russian social media users at the time treated the video as peak “just Russia things”, equal parts dark comedy and face-palm. Western outlets ran it as another example of the chaos returning soldiers sometimes bring home with them.
Either way, it’s the kind of neighborhood entertainment that makes you grateful your local park doesn’t feature active-duty veterans with leftover military gear.
