An OnlyFans model who stabbed her boyfriend to death in their luxury Miami condo has been sentenced to only six years in prison after striking a plea deal, meaning she could walk free in about two years thanks to time already served.
Courtney Clenney, 30, pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter with a deadly weapon in the April 2022 killing of her 27-year-old boyfriend, Christian Obumseli. She had originally faced second-degree murder charges that carried the possibility of decades behind bars.
Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson handed down the six-year sentence, followed by five years of probation. Clenney, who has been jailed since her 2022 arrest, received credit for roughly four years already served. As a condition of probation, she must complete mental health and substance abuse evaluations and any required treatment.
Prosecutors said Clenney admitted she caused the fatal stab wound. The deal was reached with the full consultation and approval of Obumseli’s family, according to Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle.
“With this plea agreement, Christian Obumseli’s family finally heard what they long sought: Courtney Clenney accepting full responsibility for his death,” Fernandez Rundle said in a statement. “This plea was reached in full consultation and approval of Christian’s family.”
Obumseli was fatally stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife inside the couple’s apartment at the One Paraiso Residences in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood on April 3, 2022. He was rushed to the hospital but died from the wound, which a medical examiner determined was about three inches deep.
Clenney claimed she acted in self-defense, telling investigators she was “terrified” of Obumseli and that he had been abusive. She said he pushed her and that she threw a knife at him from about 10 feet away during an argument. Her attorneys had prepared to argue a battered-spouse defense at trial.
Prosecutors, however, pointed to what they described as a pattern of escalating violence by Clenney toward Obumseli in their “tempestuous and combative” relationship. Body camera footage and videos of prior confrontations were part of the evidence in the case.
Clenney, who built a large following online under the name Courtney Tailor, has remained in custody without bond since her arrest. She will be transferred to a state prison facility to serve the remainder of her sentence.
The high-profile case had drawn national attention for years as it moved toward what many expected would be a contentious trial. Instead, the plea resolves the criminal matter without a jury hearing the full evidence.
Obumseli’s family delivered emotional victim impact statements in court before the sentencing.
