A bare-chested foreigner armed with a huge knife sparked chaos at a luxury housing estate in Hong Kong after launching a random stabbing spree that left two people wounded, including a domestic helper who was knifed in the neck and back.
Dramatic video footage circulating online captures the terrifying moment the 22-year-old suspect, later identified as a Bangladeshi-origin Hong Kong resident, charged around the upmarket Baguio Villa complex in Pok Fu Lam while brandishing a 28cm blade.
The shirtless and barefoot attacker can be seen racing across roads and pathways, chasing terrified residents and security staff as screams ring out. In one harrowing clip, he lunges at a foreign domestic helper, stabbing her before turning on a security guard.
The helper, understood to be in her 60s, suffered wounds to her neck and back. A security officer was hurt in the elbow during the frantic struggle. Both victims were rushed to hospital conscious.
Shocked onlookers and security personnel in high-visibility yellow vests desperately tried to stop the rampage. Footage shows guards confronting the knife-wielding man, with one falling to the ground as the attacker advanced. A bystander is seen intervening, helping to restrain the suspect until police arrived and arrested him at the scene.
The incident unfolded around 9 am on Monday at the exclusive residential complex on Victoria Road. Neighbours described scenes of pure panic as the man, reportedly suffering from mental health issues, left his flat and began attacking people without warning.
Police later searched the suspect’s home and made a disturbing discovery: a pet cat with an injured ear, believed to have been hurt by the attacker before he stepped outside.
Officers recovered the bloodied knife and classified the case as wounding. The suspect, who holds a Hong Kong ID, remains in custody as detectives investigate the motive.
