Georgia Man In The Country Illegally Breaks Through Drywall Of Apartment To Sexually Assault Babysitter In Front Of The Young Children She Was Watching
GAINESVILLE, Ga. – A 29-year-old man is behind bars after authorities say he smashed through the drywall of a neighboring apartment and violently attacked a 15-year-old girl who was babysitting two young children.
According to police, the August 5 incident unfolded when Obed Reyes allegedly broke through a closet wall connecting his unit to the one next door in Gainesville. Inside, he found the teenage babysitter alone with a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old.
Officials say Reyes grabbed the girl by the hair, punched her repeatedly, and threatened to rape her while the children watched in terror. The victim fought back and managed to break free, fleeing into the breezeway of the apartment complex where she screamed for help.
Neighbors heard the cries and immediately called 911. Responding officers arrived to find the assault still underway and took Reyes into custody on the scene.
Reyes now faces multiple serious charges, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, burglary, attempted rape, and cruelty to children.
Hall County jail records show that federal authorities have placed an ICE detainer on Reyes and are reviewing his immigration status. Police confirmed that the suspect and the teenage victim were complete strangers.
The case has drawn attention online after details of the brazen break-in and attack circulated widely. Authorities have not released further information about a possible motive.
