Two Spanish cyclists thought they were about to pull off a Disney-style rescue when they spotted a wild boar paddling in an irrigation canal.
Instead, the bristly beast taught them a brutal lesson: nature doesn’t do cute.
In the chaotic video now ripping across social media, the pair — decked out in full cycling gear, helmets and all — pull up to the concrete-lined waterway on what looks like a sunny Spanish day. One guy reaches out an encouraging hand. The other crouches on the wooden platform, gesturing and calling like he’s coaxing a lost Labrador.“Come on, buddy… you can do it!” the vibe screams.
The problem? That “drowning” jabalí was swimming just fine. Wild boars are excellent swimmers. This one was apparently just taking a leisurely dip.
The animal starts heading their way. For a second it looks friendly. Then the mood flips.
Chaos erupts. The camera shakes wildly as the men scramble. One bolts, arms flailing. They scramble up embankments, vault chain-link fences, and drag their mountain bikes over barriers in a full-blown panic. Dust flies. Helmets bob. Somebody’s shouting. The boar is done playing nice.
Wildlife experts have long warned that approaching wild boars — even ones that look calm — is a terrible idea. The animals can weigh over 200 pounds, sport sharp tusks, and turn aggressive fast when they feel cornered or harassed. Spain has seen a surge in human-boar encounters as the animals push into more populated and agricultural areas looking for food and water.
These two riders apparently missed the memo.
What started as a feel-good “we’re saving wildlife!” moment ended the only way these stories ever do: two grown men running like their Lycra was on fire, while a very annoyed hog reclaimed its personal space.
