A 16-year-old Tennessee girl faces juvenile charges of assault and disorderly conduct after she ran onto the field during a middle school football game and tackled a player following a brief scuffle between athletes.
The incident occurred Tuesday night during a contest between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School at Franklin County High School in Winchester, Tennessee. Video captured the moment after South scored a touchdown and extra point. Two players got into a short altercation in the end zone as referees threw flags. Moments later, the teenage spectator jumped a fence, sprinted onto the field, and leveled one of the South Middle School players involved in the scuffle.
Footage shows the girl tackling the player to the ground, then shoving him down again as he attempted to stand before coaches and officials intervened. A school resource officer met her as she walked off the field toward the Cornersville sideline. The girl was released to her parents that night.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office charged the juvenile with assault and disorderly conduct on Wednesday. Officials confirmed she is a Marshall County Schools student. Franklin County Schools issued a lifetime trespass ban barring her from all district properties. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association also prohibited her from attending Cornersville Middle School home and away athletic events for one year.
Referees ended the game early and cleared the field after the disruption. South Middle School was leading 35-0 at the time. No injuries were reported.
Franklin County Schools Director of Schools Dr. Roger Alsup described the behavior as “unacceptable,” stating the district “will protect our players and coaches.” Sheriff Tim Fuller confirmed the charges and the lifetime ban from school properties.
The dramatic video of the girl charging the field has circulated widely online, drawing attention to the rare and aggressive spectator interference at a youth sporting event. Authorities continue to handle the matter through the juvenile justice system.
