In a clip that’s currently lighting up timelines faster than a dumbass with a Roman candle, some absolute unit decided he was the next Crocodile Hunter and got completely cooked by a Philippine tarsier, one of the world’s smallest primates, a nocturnal endangered species that clearly did not sign up for daytime content creation.
The video, which clocks in at a painful three minutes, follows a heavily tattooed guy in a dirty T-shirt and a trucker hat that says “AFY! America Yeah” as he tries to manhandle the tiny, big-eyed tarsier wrapped in a blue towel. What starts as “look at this cool critter I found” quickly turns into a full-on street fight the human is losing badly.
Philippine tarsiers are strictly nocturnal. They sleep all day in dark forest hollows and only come out at night to hunt insects with those massive eyes that take up more space than their brain. So when this guy is out here in broad daylight treating one like a plush toy, the little bastard has every right to be pissed. It’s the animal equivalent of someone dragging you out of bed at 2 p.m., shining a flashlight in your face, and then wondering why you’re swinging.
The tarsier, already dealing with habitat loss and the pet trade that has pushed it onto the threatened list, opens its mouth, kicks its long digits, and starts climbing the guy like he’s a human jungle gym. At one point it latches onto his chest, and the man’s face does that classic “I just got stabbed by a thousand tiny knives” expression while he yells something that definitely wasn’t on the original Steve Irwin script.
For nearly three straight minutes, the dude keeps trying to rewrap the thing, hold it down, and talk to it like they’re having a civil conversation. The animal responds by treating his torso like a scratching post with those specialized grooming claws.
Every time he thinks he’s got control, the little endangered nocturnal assassin squirms free and goes right back to work. The guy’s facial expressions cycle through confidence, confusion, pure agony, and finally the quiet acceptance of a man who knows he just filmed his own L for the entire internet.
This screams “I saw Steve Irwin do it on TV, so how hard can it be” energy. Except Steve Irwin actually knew what he was doing and this guy is running the Temu version of the Crocodile Hunter playbook on a protected species that just wants to sleep. No respect for the animal. No understanding that it’s endangered and nocturnal. Just pure main-character syndrome and a blue towel.
By the end of the clip, the man is still trying to assert dominance while the tarsier has already established itself as the clear winner. The only thing missing is a referee stopping the fight and raising the furry one’s tiny paw.
The lesson here is simple and has been true since the beginning of time: leave wild animals the fuck alone, especially the endangered nocturnal ones. They did not ask to be in your TikTok. They do not care about your content. And if you insist on waking up a Philippine tarsier in the middle of its sleep cycle and picking it up like it’s a puppy at the pet store, do not be shocked when it decides to rearrange your upper body.
