A wild blonde woman completely lost it on the outdoor patio at 39 West 24th Street in Manhattan on Sunday, screaming “Don’t call me a slut!”, hurling water, then launching a full-on attack that left a man shirtless and under assault as stunned diners looked on.
The viral video, filmed by bystander @krustykrabpzza5 at the Flatiron District spot, captures the chaos in broad daylight. The woman in the white tank top and jeans charges the man after the verbal exchange, landing slaps before ripping his dark shirt clean off his body. She then jumps onto his back, punching and scratching him as he tries to push her away and repeatedly asks, “What’s wrong with you? Are you seeing this?”
What has online viewers especially furious is the bystander response, or total lack of one, defending the man’s right to protect himself.
A second woman can be clearly seen pushing and restraining the male victim while he is actively being assaulted and merely trying to defend himself.
Yet the moment the attacker climbs onto his back, tears off his shirt, and rains punches and scratches, that same woman does absolutely nothing to stop the assault. Other bystanders pile on with the same one-sided message: tell the man to walk away, leave her alone, de-escalate, anything except restrain the aggressor or acknowledge his right to defend himself.
“I was telling him to walk away to stop the fight because she was clearly out of her mind,” the original poster later explained. The filmer added that she ultimately helped the victim by handing over the video to him and police. The attacker was arrested.
No one in the clip appears to step in to stop the woman once she is on the man’s back and actively beating him. The double standard has sparked outrage online, with commenters slamming the crowd for protecting the female attacker while treating the man as the problem simply for existing while under attack.
The woman remains unidentified publicly. The man has not spoken out. But the video leaves little doubt: at 39 W 24th St on Sunday, one person was the clear aggressor, and almost no one treated the victim like he had any right to fight back.
