Bali has long been the place people go to “find themselves.” Usually that means yoga, sound baths, and paying $40 for a smoothie that tastes like dirt. Now it apparently includes getting strapped to a metal rig by your wrists and ankles while a dude in black slowly unfolds you like a lawn chair.
The video making the rounds shows a woman in white activewear lying on a mat in a gorgeous wooden Balinese pavilion. Then the chains come out. Wrists and ankles get cuffed. A guy starts operating the rig like he’s running a construction crane. Within seconds she’s in a full split, then inverted, then hanging like she’s being prepped for a very expensive ritual. The caption claims this is for pain relief.
Sure it is.
This is the most extra version of stretching you’ve ever seen. It’s not a gentle hamstring pull. It’s a full-body “we’re going to find every tight muscle you didn’t know you had and then some” session. The rig lets them lift her, rotate her, and drop her into positions that would make a Cirque du Soleil performer tap out. One second she’s face-up in a wide split. Next she’s hanging upside down like a human chandelier. The guy assisting looks completely unbothered, like this is just Tuesday in Bali.
People in the comments immediately went where you’d expect. One guy asked if they could put a normal person in it instead of someone who already looks like a professional contortionist. Another straight-up called it a sex machine and wanted a poll. Fair. If you walked into that room without context, you’d assume you took a wrong turn into a very well-decorated dungeon.
And yet… it kind of makes sense in that Bali way. The island is packed with wellness spots offering spinal decompression, aerial yoga, and “alignment therapy.” Hanging and stretching can take pressure off discs and open up tight hips and shoulders. This just happens to look like someone said “what if we made yoga more cinematic and slightly terrifying?”
The woman in the video is smiling through most of it, which is either a testament to how good it feels or proof that some people have a much higher pain-and-embarrassment threshold than the rest of us. Either way, she’s living her best life while the rest of us are still trying to touch our toes without making a noise.
So yes, Bali will strap you to a rig, stretch you until you question your life choices, and call it medicine. And honestly? After watching it, part of you wants to try it. The other part of you is just glad they didn’t show the part where they have to unstrap you and you try to walk like a baby deer.
