A video dropped yesterday that’s already sitting at nearly 3 million views and climbing, and it might be the most honest product review in internet history.
A guy in a helmet and harness stands on a foggy granite cliff with a group of other jumpers watching. He takes a running start, throws himself off the edge holding a cheap-looking red-and-black canopy in his hands like it’s a beach towel, then lets it go mid-air and deploys whatever he’s actually wearing on his back. The first canopy inflates. He starts gliding over a fjord. Then the landing zone comes into view: a steep, rocky slope covered in trees and boulders with water right next to it.
For a few seconds it looks like he’s heading straight into the timber. Then, in the last moments above the trees, the backup chute finally does its job and pops. We never actually see him slam into anything. The camera just loses him in the branches and rocks as the gear disappears into the greenery. What we do see afterward is a rough-looking landing zone, canopy twisted in the trees, body somewhere in the mix of boulders and brush. It doesn’t look like a clean stand-up. It looks like the kind of arrival that makes you check if everything still bends the right way.
The people on the cliff? They’re laughing.
Not nervous laughter. Not “oh shit I hope he’s okay” laughter. Full-on “this is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week” laughter.
This wasn’t a textbook BASE jump. It looks like speed flying or some hybrid setup where the first canopy is just there to get him off the cliff before he switches to the real one. The backup kicking in at the last second is what kept it from being a full disaster. The landing, however, was still textbook “I did not account for the trees.”
Nobody’s confirmed the exact date or location beyond “somewhere that looks exactly like the Lysefjorden area in Norway,” but the clip went live August 26. The jumper appears to have walked (or at least crawled) away, because the comments aren’t treating it like a tragedy. They’re treating it like the guy just became the unofficial brand ambassador for whatever no-name canopy he just wrecked.
