A reckless driver in a Chevy Camaro lost control and smashed through a Fort Worth family’s wooden fence Sunday evening, sending debris flying toward three young children playing by the pool in a scene caught on chilling surveillance video.

The 2-year-old girl and her 5-year-old twin brothers were just feet away when the car tore through the backyard around 7 p.m. near the 1500 block of Heritage Trace Parkway in north Fort Worth.

None of the kids were hit.“This was a miracle that our children weren’t harmed… we feel all glory is to God,” the mother said after the close call.

The Van Dusen family said their toddler was “just inches away” from the path of destruction. The twins were in the water. Flying wood, rocks, and pieces of a concrete pillar the Camaro struck after bursting through the fence landed dangerously close.

Home security cameras show the kids splashing and playing one moment. The next, the car explodes through the fence line. Parents rush in as debris sprays across the patio and pool area.

The 22-year-old driver was cited for reckless driving. His passenger suffered a gash to the head and was taken to a hospital. Police have not released the driver’s name.

The family said the car was “barreling through” the neighborhood at high speed before the driver lost control. After hitting the fence and a concrete pillar, the vehicle bounced back onto the roadway and eventually stopped.

“Our home and our backyard, places where our children should be completely safe, became a scene where we were forced to face the possibility of losing one of our children,” the family said in a statement.

Fort Worth police confirmed the citation. Reckless driving in Texas is a misdemeanor that can carry a fine and jail time, but no further charges have been announced.

The video has circulated widely, including on Mario Nawfal’s account, where viewers called it a terrifying reminder of how fast a neighborhood street can turn deadly. The family is grateful their children walked away. The fence, pool area, and their sense of safety did not.
