Cafe Thief Tries To Snatch The Top Jar...Too Bad It Was Booby-Trapped

A would-be thief who thought he'd pulled off the perfect smash-and-grab at a Portuguese restaurant has been left looking like a complete amateur after staff outsmarted him with the simplest of tricks.

CCTV footage circulating online shows the man strolling into the cafe dressed as an ordinary customer, complete with sunglasses and a Fila backpack slung over his shoulder. He waits until staff are distracted, then makes his move on the tip jar sitting invitingly on the counter.

What he didn't count on was that the restaurant workers had already seen this coming. They'd glued the jar firmly to the table.

The footage captures the man's growing panic as he tugs, yanks and wrestles with the stubborn container. He glances around nervously, shifts his backpack, even bends down for another go. Nothing. The jar stays put like it's welded there.

A woman walks past as he continues his clumsy struggle. Staff remain nearby, apparently none the wiser at first. Eventually the would-be criminal gives up and slinks away empty-handed, his grand plan reduced to an embarrassing few minutes of tugging at furniture.

The video, shared by Turkish user Serkan Tanyildizi, has racked up tens of thousands of views as viewers revel in the thief's humiliation. One commenter summed it up: "He planned the perfect tip jar heist and forgot to check whether the tip jar actually wanted to leave."It's a reminder that even the smallest businesses are getting wise to these low-level opportunists. Gluing down the tip jar might not look like much, but it just turned one man's "easy money" into a public laughing stock. The staff, meanwhile, kept every last coin.
