Wild Footage Shows Florida Driver Blasts Gas-Station Attacker After Man Assaults Woman In Passenger Seat

A Florida driver opened fire on a man who had just punched and choked a woman trying to get into her SUV at a Pompano Beach gas station, sending the attacker fleeing wounded after a two-minute explosion of violence captured on surveillance cameras.

The wild scene unfolded just before 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Orion gas station on East Atlantic Boulevard, a busy corner across from City Hall that suddenly turned into a crime scene complete with yellow tape, evidence markers and a white Toyota RAV4 sitting with its passenger door hanging open.

Video shows a man in a white tank top and bright blue shorts walking straight up to the SUV at the pump. He yanks on the passenger-side door handles and bangs on the window. When the door opens, he reaches inside. The woman in the seat shoves him back. She gets out. A fight erupts. He punches her. At one point, he appears to wrap his hands around her neck and slam her against the vehicle. She throws things at him. The driver of the SUV can be seen standing nearby, peeking over the roof as the melee unfolds just feet away.

Then it stops. The woman gets back in the car and locks the door. The man in the tank top strolls into the convenience store, buys a single cigarette, and walks back out less than 30 seconds later. As he passes in front of the Toyota, the driver raises a handgun and fires multiple shots. The man runs, stumbles into a parking lot across the street, and is later found shot. Paramedics rushed him to Broward Health North. His condition was not released.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies detained the driver at the scene. He stayed put. Hours later, cameras caught what appeared to be the same man returning to collect the SUV. He ignored reporters, honked, and drove off. Authorities have not identified anyone involved or said whether the occupants of the vehicle knew the man who attacked the passenger. Detectives are still trying to figure out what sparked the confrontation and whether the shooting was justified.

Witnesses who had been picking up catering for a funeral said they suddenly found themselves in the middle of an active shooting. One man told local reporters he ran for cover as soon as the shots rang out. Investigators placed multiple evidence markers around the pumps and the SUV. The passenger door was still open when deputies arrived.

The entire sequence, from first tug on the door handle to gunfire, lasted about two minutes. The video has already circulated widely, with some viewers praising the driver for stepping in after the woman was assaulted and others questioning why anyone would open the door in the first place. Police have released no names and say the investigation remains active.
