Some guys go to work and stare at spreadsheets. This dude in rural India clocked in, walked up to a brick wall, and started playing grab-ass with two spectacled cobras that were hanging out like they owned the place.
The clip that blew up on X shows a man in an olive pullover, jeans, and beat-up Crocs treating two big Indian cobras like they were slightly annoyed garden hoses. One snake is already hooded up on the wall, looking pissed. The other is slithering around like it has somewhere better to be. Our guy? He just stands there with a stick in one hand and the kind of calm that makes you wonder if he’s ever felt fear in his life.
He doesn’t flinch. He doesn’t yell. He uses the stick to pin and guide, then straight-up grabs one cobra by the body with his bare hand while the other one is still in play. At one point he’s holding a snake up like he’s checking the length of a fish he just caught. Then he stuffs both of them into a cloth bag like he’s packing groceries.
These aren’t garter snakes. Spectacled cobras, the classic “hooded” Indian cobra, pack neurotoxic venom that can shut your respiratory system down if they decide they’ve had enough of your nonsense. One clean bite and you’re having a very bad day. This man is out here doing it with a stick and whatever courage they were issued at birth in that part of the country.
Snake catchers (often called sarpamitras) exist because cobras and people keep ending up in the same spots. Houses, construction sites, brick piles — snakes like the warmth and the rats. Somebody has to go get them without turning the situation into a body bag situation. Most of us would call animal control and hide behind a couch. This guy shows up in casual clothes and treats it like moving a couch.
The video is almost two and a half minutes of pure “how is this real” footage. He works both snakes at once. He lifts one high. He bags them. He even steps on the bag at the end like he’s making sure the zipper’s closed. No gloves. No fancy tongs. Just a dude doing his job while two of the most dangerous snakes in Asia try to figure out what the hell just happened.
So next time you’re complaining about your commute, remember there’s a man somewhere in India who just casually bagged two cobras before breakfast. And somewhere else in the same country, 18-foot king cobras could look him in the eye and still consider him a snack. “ Built different" isn’t even the phrase. These guys are operating on a completely different setting.
