Shocking footage has captured the moment a 14-year-old girl was mowed down by a car while a TV reporter stood just meters away covering a completely separate fatal crash involving a three-year-old boy.
The dramatic collision unfolded on Saturday afternoon in the town of Kościerzyna in northern Poland as journalist Miłosz Sieliwończyk was live on air for public broadcaster TVP Info.
He had been reporting on the earlier tragedy in which a toddler was crushed by a vehicle on a nearby property and could not be saved despite resuscitation attempts.
Then, behind him, disaster struck again.
A black car turning into a side street smashed into the teenager as she rode an electric scooter. The force of the impact sent her slamming into the windscreen before she tumbled over the roof and landed in the road.
The reporter later described hearing a loud bang and his cameraman shouting in horror. When he turned around, he saw the girl lying on the tarmac and the damaged car speeding away.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, did not stop immediately. He returned to the scene several minutes later. Police said he was sober but had no driving licence.
Amazingly, the girl escaped with only minor scratches and did not need hospital treatment. She was conscious and asked the TV crew to call her mother.
Sieliwończyk and his operator immediately went to help her and dialled emergency services. Their camera kept rolling, capturing the vehicle’s number plate and giving police crucial evidence.
Officers confirmed the two accidents were unrelated. An investigation is continuing.
The clip has since gone viral, with viewers stunned by the extraordinary coincidence of two crashes happening in the same small town on the same day, and one of them being filmed live on national television.
