A 20-year-old former gymnast turned late-night burger run into a real-life action movie when he launched himself through an In-N-Out drive-thru window to confront a raging customer who was tearing up the place with a massive stick.
Luca Opperman was sitting in the drive-thru in Lake Elsinore, California, just after midnight when he heard the commotion. A woman inside was screaming and smashing what looked like a baseball bat-sized branch against the counter, sending employees scrambling for cover. His girlfriend told him not to get involved. He ignored her.
“He gets out of his car, and he jumps through the window like he’s Spider-Man,” a witness said in the video that exploded online. Opperman slithered through the opening, grabbed the first thing he saw, a spatula, and started barking orders at the woman to get out. When she kept coming, he dropped the kitchen tool, lowered his shoulder like he was back on the rugby field, and charged.
The clip shows the chaotic scene: the woman in a blue shirt swinging wildly, glass and debris flying, then Opperman in a black T-shirt taking control of the situation. No one ended up in the hospital. Police later booked 53-year-old Antonieta Sanchez of Redlands on suspicion of felony vandalism and brandishing a weapon.
Opperman, a college student, former gymnast, parkour teacher, and freestyle trampoline athlete, said he acted because he knew someone was about to get hurt. “If I didn’t step in right there and then, I knew that somebody would have gotten hurt,” he told reporters. He later joked about the online demand for In-N-Out to give him burgers for life, and maybe a gold car while they’re at it.
In-N-Out issued a statement thanking the customer who “bravely intervened.” The video racked up millions of views, with commenters calling him the “In-N-Out slayer” and proof that not every young guy freezes when things get ugly.
In a country where too many people pull out phones instead of stepping up, one kid with gymnast skills and zero hesitation just reminded everyone what it looks like when someone actually does something. The spatula is now unofficially the most famous kitchen utensil in Southern California.
