Shocking bodycam footage captures the moment elite Peruvian police unleashed a hail of bullets on a luxury-car theft gang during a terrifying high-speed ambush on one of Lima’s busiest highways, leaving two criminals dead and one survivor in custody.
The dramatic video, released from the night of 21 May 2025, shows officers from the SUAT tactical unit and robbery investigators closing in on a stolen high-end vehicle carrying members of the notorious “Injertos del Centro” crew as they tried to force their way through evening traffic on the Vía Expresa.
Grainy night-time images filmed from an officer’s perspective reveal the chaos unfolding in seconds. Cars sit jammed along the multi-lane road under streetlights while armed police in tactical vests and helmets move in on foot. One frame shows sparks erupting beside a dark SUV as gunfire erupts. Another captures a gloved hand gripping a rifle in the foreground as officers advance past stopped vehicles, their shadows stretching across the asphalt.
According to police accounts of the operation, the gang, linked to a string of aggravated robberies and vehicle thefts in upscale districts including Miraflores, Surco and Lince, had been under surveillance for weeks. When officers moved to intercept them near the México station area, the suspects allegedly opened fire from inside their vehicle and tried to ram their way clear, triggering the exchange.
Two of the men, identified in local reports as Alexander Alvarado Zeballos, known as “Moñongo,” and Giancarlo Huamaní Cornejo, known as “Cuarto de Pollo,” later died from their wounds. A third suspect, Eduardo Quiñones, alias “Kevin,” was detained. Three officers, including a senior robbery investigator, were injured by fragments during the confrontation. Authorities said no civilians were killed, though drivers caught in the sudden crossfire were forced to take cover amid the stalled traffic.
The footage continues with officers pressing forward between vehicles, rifles raised, as brake lights glow and the road remains blocked. One sequence shows a tactical officer with a green light on his helmet moving ahead while the camera-holder keeps a weapon trained forward. Later frames linger on the officer’s rifle and wristwatch as the immediate threat appears to subside, with damaged cars and emergency lights still visible in the background.
Police described the action as the culmination of intelligence work that had mapped the gang’s movements and previous crimes, including the theft and re-plating of high-value vehicles used in further robberies. The surviving suspect faced preliminary detention orders related to the shootout.
The video has circulated widely in Peru as an example of a rapid tactical intervention on a major urban artery, with the raw bodycam view underscoring how quickly a planned stop turned into a running gun battle amid ordinary evening traffic.
