CINCINNATI — Three University of Cincinnati freshmen were beaten and robbed by a group of older teenagers outside a Wingstop just off campus Wednesday night, police said, in the latest violent incident on a commercial strip that has drawn repeated safety complaints from students and parents.
The attack happened around 8 p.m. on Short Vine in the Corryville neighborhood. The three 18-year-old women told Local 12 they had ridden their personal electric scooters from their dorm to get dinner when they found roughly eight or nine male and female teens blocking the end of the crosswalk by the restaurant.
“We were bombarded by yelling and cussing and threats,” one of the women said in a video interview with the station. Another described the assault as sudden: “They take our scooters. My friend gets hit in the face. Four girls jump on me. Men are attacking her, and it just was all so quick.”
Witness video shared with Local 12 shows the group attacking the women. Three of the teens fled on the stolen scooters; the rest ran on foot. Photos taken at the scene show one of the freshmen speaking with officers with her shirt torn. All three were taken to UC Medical Center and treated for cuts and bruises. One later recovered her scooter.“I actually got a call from my daughter in the back of an ambulance, crying,” one victim’s mother told the station. Another UC parent who saw the account in a parents’ Facebook group said she contacted city officials and asked whether a student would have to be killed before something was done.
Cincinnati police said four juveniles have been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. Investigators are still looking for others involved in the attack. The victims, who asked not to be named, said the episode left them afraid to walk alone.“I can’t even walk down the street alone without being scared that I might get mugged again, get robbed, get hit,” one of them said.
The confrontation is the latest in a string of violent incidents near the university this academic year. Local 12 noted that seven people were shot in five separate incidents from late August through early September. Short Vine has also been the site of earlier group attacks, including a September 2025 beating over a takeout order in which a UC student suffered a broken jaw; several people were later sentenced to prison in that case.
City officials approved a 9 p.m. curfew for unsupervised minors in the area in November 2025 after an uptick in robberies and aggravated assaults in Corryville. Police have not released the names of the juveniles charged in Wednesday’s attack, which is common in cases involving minors. The investigation remains open.
