INGLEWOOD, Calif. — What started as a routine car appraisal at a Southern California CarMax exploded into pure chaos when a 25-year-old customer allegedly lost it and drove his SUV straight through the dealership’s glass doors and into the crowded showroom, injuring eight people.

Surveillance and bystander video from the March 8, 2025, incident shows the driver reversing hard into the front of the building on La Cienega Boulevard, sending employees and customers scrambling as glass shattered and furniture went flying. The SUV then powered through the interior and exited the opposite side before the driver fled the scene.

Two people were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Six others suffered minor injuries. One victim was left paralyzed and in a coma from a brain injury, according to court records.

Andrew Jesus Arroyo was later charged with attempted murder, multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run, and vandalism. Prosecutors said he displayed a high degree of cruelty and callousness. He turned himself in at a nearby police academy shortly after the crash.

CarMax confirmed the driver was a customer who had just had his vehicle appraised. Some witnesses and early reports pointed to a dispute over the offer. The company later said employees described his behavior as turning suddenly erratic but did not directly tie it to the appraisal amount. Either way, the reaction was extreme: instead of walking away from a bad deal, he allegedly weaponized his SUV against the people inside.

Initial 911 calls treated the scene like a possible active shooter situation as panicked people poured out of the building. Firefighters and police quickly determined it was a deliberate vehicle attack on the structure. The dealership was left with a gaping hole where the front entrance used to be, overturned desks, and scattered debris.

Arroyo’s alleged decision to turn a commercial disagreement into a high-speed indoor rampage left multiple people hospitalized and one fighting for his life. The case underscores how quickly a mundane sales interaction can spiral when someone decides the response is to drive through the building rather than negotiate or leave.

Authorities arrested him the same day. The charges include special allegations of causing great bodily injury to multiple victims.
