Terrifying footage has captured the moment a 16-year-old boy turned a Malaysian international school into a scene of pure panic, strapping a phone to his head, declaring there was “no turning back,” and then storming a classroom while brandishing sharp weapons.
The chilling attack unfolded this morning at Tunku Putra-HELP International School in Kuching, Sarawak, shortly after 8am. In the viral video, the Form Four student is seen inside a school toilet, staring into a mirror with his mobile phone fixed to his forehead. He appears to prepare himself before sprinting down corridors toward a classroom where lessons were already underway.
As he burst through the door, he is heard shouting at the female teacher: “This is what you get.” What followed was chaos. Students can be heard screaming as desks and chairs are overturned. Most pupils fled for the exits, but one classmate stayed behind, wrestling the attacker to the ground alongside staff and preventing further harm. The teacher suffered a cut to her hand and was rushed to hospital by ambulance; her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. No other students were hurt.
Acting Sarawak police chief DCP Saifullizan Ishak confirmed officers were called at 8.03am via the emergency line. A penknife and a small axe or hatchet were later recovered, along with firecrackers or other items from the boy’s bag that are still being examined. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and under the Explosives Act. The student was restrained, taken to the principal’s office, and later held for assessment; some reports indicate he was placed in a psychiatric ward.
School authorities issued a notice confirming the incident was isolated, that the attacker was quickly subdued, and that lessons ended early so police could search the premises. Parents were asked to collect their children as a precaution while the campus remained closed for the investigation.
The livestream, which briefly went dark amid the struggle as the phone was dislodged, has circulated widely online, prompting fresh concern about school safety in Malaysia. Days earlier, the same student is said to have posted a video expressing frustration with his studies and claiming no one understood the pressure he was under.
In the aftermath, one parent summed up the mood among families: “You send your child to school and this is what can happen.” The brave classmate who stayed and helped overpower the attacker has been widely praised for his quick thinking and courage in the face of the attack.
