UNHINGED BIKE-PARK RAGE: 48-Year-Old Man Throws Teen’s Mountain Bike Into Creek During Bridge Meltdown in Whistler

A middle-aged man turned a scenic stop on a narrow wooden bridge into a full-blown nightmare for a group of teenage American mountain bikers at Whistler Mountain Bike Park last June, shoving them, screaming threats, and hurling one of their bikes into the rushing creek below while warning them about a cougar.

The explosive confrontation, captured on a helmet camera and posted to Instagram by one of the teens, shows the unidentified rider, who repeatedly identified himself as 48, losing it on the South Park trail in the park’s Creekside Zone on June 27, 2025.

The teens, including Brodey Walker and Alex Knab, had paused on the slippery, rope-railed bridge over the creek to take in the view on a rainy afternoon. That’s when the older man approached from behind, bumped into them on the tight crossing, and muttered, “Sorry man, I didn’t mean it,” while shoving one of the riders and rambling about fences.

He briefly rode past, only to spin around seconds later, accusing the group of calling him a “bitch.”

“Who’s the bitch?” he bellowed, according to the footage, before grabbing one of the bikes, hoisting it overhead, and chucking it off the bridge into the water.

The teens, visiting from the United States, tried to calm him down. “We don’t want to fight. We are scared,” one pleaded. Another repeatedly said, “We are sorry.”

The man was having none of it. He put his hands up in a fighting stance, threatened to toss them into the river if they touched him again, and accused one of kicking him “right in the nuts” after the teen pushed him away with his foot. He then pivoted to a bizarre wildlife warning: “You know there’s a cougar around here. The cougar is chasing people… watch yourself boys,” before asking if one of them “want[ed] to go in the river with him.”

The teens eventually backed off, saying they would leave. The bike was later recovered from the creek undamaged.

Whistler Blackcomb operator Vail Resorts moved quickly, confirming it contacted everyone involved and revoked the man’s park access and pass. “The safety of our guests is our top priority, and behaviour of this nature is not appropriate or acceptable in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park,” a spokesperson said. “We are committed to upholding a safe and respectful environment for all guests.”

The Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP opened an investigation after the teens reported the incident to park staff, who recognized the man as a regular. In mid-July, police announced a suspect had been arrested and released on conditions with a future court date. Investigators said the probe remained ongoing and asked witnesses to come forward.

The raw video racked up hundreds of thousands of views almost immediately, sparking a fierce online debate. Many commenters praised the teens for staying calm on the dangerous bridge and avoiding a potentially deadly escalation, while others blasted their response as too passive, a reaction that resurfaced more than a year later when the clip was shared again on social media.

The teens told CTV News they simply wanted to de-escalate and get away safely. The man has not been publicly identified.
