She pulls into the garage around 11:30 at night and finds another car sitting in her paid parking space. There is a sign on the wall. There is another one on the floor. The spot is clearly marked as hers. She does not get out and knock. She does not leave a note. She calls for a tow.

A truck shows up and lifts the car. The whole thing is over before the neighbor even realizes what is happening. The woman who owns the spot heads inside. A short time later the neighbor comes out, clearly not happy, and the two of them end up face to face in the hallway.

The neighbor’s argument is simple: they live right next to each other. A knock on the door would have solved it. She says she gave her own spot to somebody else and asks, basically, why she was not given the same courtesy. The woman who called the tow does not budge. She tells the neighbor she does not know her. Seeing each other in the building does not mean they are friends or that she owes her a warning. She points out that the spot was paid for and signed, and that the neighbor parked there anyway.

The neighbor keeps pressing the “we’re neighbors” point. The other woman keeps the same answer: she does not know her, and she is not required to go knocking on doors at 11:30 at night because someone decided the rules did not apply to them.

That is the entire exchange. No yelling match that escalates past that. Just one person enforcing the signs and the other person arguing that proximity should have bought her a conversation instead of a tow truck.

Was the tow fair, or should she have knocked first?
