Brazil- In a shocking scene straight out of a horror film, a driver who claimed she fell asleep at the wheel smashed her Jeep Renegade straight through the front of a busy clothing store in Manaus, while the owner was live-streaming a Black Friday sale to thousands of viewers.
The terrifying crash happened at around 4.30 pm on Thursday at the Use Guta Store on Avenida João Valério in the Vieiralves neighbourhood. Owner Dailane Augusta da Silva Baba, known as Guta, was cheerfully showing off discounted tops and talking to customers online when the black SUV suddenly burst through the entrance, destroying part of the shop front and sending staff scrambling for their lives.
Stunning footage of the live broadcast, which has since gone viral, shows Guta standing in front of clothing racks, holding up a striped top and chatting away, before the screen erupts into chaos as the vehicle ploughs inside. The transmission cuts out amid screams and the sound of smashing glass and metal.
According to police from the 22ª Companhia Interativa Comunitária, the female driver told officers she had nodded off at the wheel, lost control of the Jeep Renegade and careered into the store. One shop assistant suffered scrapes to her shoulder and was treated at the scene by emergency medics from SAMU. Guta herself was also struck by the vehicle but later told followers on social media that she was okay.
Criminal forensics teams were called to the wrecked shop as staff covered the damaged entrance with tarpaulin and began assessing the devastation to stock and the building. The dramatic incident, which occurred during a promotional “Blackout” Black Friday live, has left locals stunned at how close the live-stream viewers came to witnessing a far greater tragedy.
