For the last 6 years, Les Lehmann has hosted a humanitarian group that arrives from Canada to support and aide a Dominican orphange and school in the area. On Thursday January 30th, Les had a very full day of welcoming and settling in the humanitarian group of highschool students, teachers and chaperones arriving from Canada. At 1 am Friday morning, Les was awoken by a disturbance and decided to get up and patrol the premises to ensure the group's safety. He was startled by two thieves with guns drawn, carrying zip-ties ready to tie him up and incapacitate him. Les grabbed a machete and confronted them, while the theives shot at him numerous times. They backed him into the bedroom and began stomping on his head and torso, resulting in extensive injury and bruising in the hope that Les would no longer interfere any further with their robbery. After 8-10 minutes of confrontation, the thieves left Les alone. Les then got up and managed to grab a hammer and followed behind them throwing it at them, he then realized that now he had nothing left for a weapon. Les saw the two thieves break into the condo and he rushed to defend the humaitarian group staying in that room. He returned to the house to find something else he could use for a weapon and grabbed a baseball bat. This is where the video begins. Les managed to hit one of the thieves with his bat a few times when the second thief started firing his gun, shooting at Les repeatedly. Les' main concern was that the humanitarian group remain safe. Even after being shot several times and imobilized Les made every attempt to check on the people in the unit and ultimately he dragged himself to the door to see that they were all out of harms way Les was shot nine times and lost over half of his blood. This happened very recently and Les is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries. He needs our support since this happened in the Dominican and he had no health insurance to cover the costs of the many surgieries it took to save his life.
