The gadget was created at Georgia Tech lab for Jason Barnes, a drummer who lost his arm below the elbow after an electric shock two years ago. Taking the place of fingers, one stick is controlled by muscle sensors in the musician’s arm while the other stick ‘listens’ to the music being played and improvises its own tune. Professor Gil Weinberg, who invented the device, explained: ‘The second drumstick has a mind of its own. The drummer essentially becomes a cyborg.’
