Friday, the Sioux City Police Department released the dash cam video of the shooting of Sioux City Police Officer Kevin McCormick. Sioux City Police said, "On April 29, 2013 Sioux City Police Officer Kevin McCormick stopped the vehicle in the video for a minor traffic violation. He was unaware that the passenger in the vehicle was Jamel Dean. Dean at that time was wanted for committing several armed robberies of drug dealers in Sioux City. The video shows Dean exiting the vehicle and firing several rounds directly at the officer. Officer McCormick was struck once in the head but continued to provide information to responding units. Dean fled the area and was captured a several days later in Texas after a nationwide man hunt. Dean plead guilty to the attempted murder of Officer McCormick and was sentenced to 25 years in the State of Iowa. On January 23, 2015 Dean was sentenced to life in Federal Prison for the robberies of the drug dealers with his criminal history being considered at sentencing. Officer McCormick recovered from his injuries and has returned to full duty."
