Tequesta, FL - A police pursuit after a Tequesta carjacking Wednesday morning ended in a rollover crash that snarled traffic on Interstate 95 in Martin County for three hours and sent three people to area hospitals, officials said. Michael Kungis, 29, of Palm Beach County, led police on a chase before swerving and hitting a sheriff's patrol car near the High Meadow Avenue exit, Snyder said. The patrol car ended up in the median.The pursuit began in northern Palm Beach County after a van was stolen from an electrical business in Tequesta, said Martin County Sheriff William Snyder. Local sheriff's deputies joined the pursuit northbound on I-95 about 8:30 a.m. at Kanner Highway. Thevan rolled eight times and landed near the woods on the southbound side before it caught fire, Snyder said. It also clipped a southbound vehicle. Kungis was ejected from the van and flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce. Kungis remains in critical condition, Martin County Sheriff's spokesman Christine Christofek said late Tuesday.
