On Monday, a new law takes effect effect in Texas on Monday that allows certain students to bring guns into classrooms. The bill is highly controversial, and divides those who control college campuses in the state. Supporter of the bill claim it could prevent mass shootings and critics worry that the law will endanger safety on campuses. The "campus carry" law would give anyone 21 or older who is licensed to carry a concealed weapon the ability to do so on college campuses in Texas. This would also include the University of Texas system, one of the largest college systems in the country that serves over 200,000 students. Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that the bill would allow people who would defend against mass shootings to carry guns on campus.
