Suspected thief jumps into river after pursuit by security guards, police, passersby

A dramatic foot pursuit ensued when two men were caught apparently trying to steal a scooter from a courthouse in Shanghai last Tuesday. Footage released by the police showed how a security patrol found the men acting suspiciously around some electric bikes parked just inside a court building and immediately called for colleagues to help them apprehend the suspected thieves. One of the men is seen running away from the court. After hearing the chasers’ cries, patrolling police as well as members of the public joined the pursuit. Seeing an army of people on his tail, their quarry jumped into a river, where all he could do was wait for capture. It is not known what happened to the second suspected thief.
