BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Last week at the Briarwood versus Fairfield game, Donald Trump’s signature slogan was displayed, 'Make American Great Again, Trump the Tigers.'
“It's ridiculous. To me, it's an insult because I don't like Trump and Trump doesn't like my people either,” student Nicole Cabrera said.
Cabrera says this sign is not a reflection of the school as a whole, but does send a conflicting message.
"It does represent some of the students here,” Cabrera said.
Parents say they don't like political agendas being expressed at a football game that is meant to be held for enjoyment.
"That they could have controlled, so I don't even know why that went up, because there's a lot of people that don't agree with that,” Cabrera said.
One of the people from the opposing team, who didn't want their identity shown, says it wasn't a welcoming environment.
"It was just really shocking, that as soon as I saw it, my eyes lit up. Because it was like, 'Why at a high school game?'" the person said.
Cabrera, as well as others, are asking for accountability when it comes to approving banners.
A statement from Briarwood Christian School reads in part: "The message of the sign did not represent the school's deep commitment to biblical principles and values, nor did it reflect our commitment to honoring and respecting our guests."
