The world-famous Bellagio Hotel went up in flames on Thursday night shutting down the Las Vegas strip.
Part of the roof of the resort, which served as the setting for the 2001 film Ocean's Eleven, was ablaze at the 4,000-room hotel, one of the largest in the world.
The fire was reported at 10.46 pm last night and some 77 firefighters battled to extinguish the blaze by 11.09 pm.
The Vegas Strip was closed to traffic as firefighters tackled the blaze, according to ABC7.
There were no reports of any injuries and the cause is being investigated.
A shocked bystander filmed the blaze as crowds gathered at the hotel, which is famous for its large dancing water fountain synchronized to music.
'Firefighting efforts were extremely difficult due to the location of the fire and access to the location,' assistant chief Larry Haydu of the CCFD said.
Just last month a gunman opened fire during an armed robbery at the same hotel, prompting terrified tourists to seek shelter amid a chaotic scene.
At least three people entered a high-end store inside the resort early in the morning, including one who fired gunshots, police said.
Witnesses and photos suggest the armed burglary took place at the Bellagio's Rolex store, and show a person in a pig mask with a gun in hand.
One woman who was at the hotel when the robbery unfolded described the atmosphere as one of 'mass panic'.
'Everyone running. I'm currently ducked on the floor under a table,' she wrote.
In December last year an electrical fire at the nearby Rio Hotel sparked a huge power outage and plunged the city into darkness.
At the hotel, 400 rooms were evacuated, and guests had to be accommodated elsewhere just two days before New Year's Eve.
Firefighters were called just before 4.30pm to find light smoke coming from a service elevator on the 27th floor, as well as smoke on floors 27, 28 and 29.
