A police officer was struck in the head with a bottle while trying to break up a brawl of more than 50 people on Sydney's eastern beaches.
Three young men - aged 14, 16 and 21 - were arrested after a violent crowd surrounded police as they tried to break up a fight between two girls near Sydney's Coogee Beach just hours before the Anzac Day dawn service.
Police were called to the scene about 11pm and as they attempted to break up the scuffle between the two women, they were surrounded by a large group of teens.
One witness Justin Taunton tweeted he had seen 'lots of drunk teenagers earlier wondering [sic] the streets', prior to the arrests.
The Burwood councillor posted footage on Twitter of police cars surrounding the park about 12.30am on Tuesday.
Police from neighbouring commands were called for urgent assistance after one officer from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command was struck in the head by a bottle while attempting to disperse the crowd.
The crowd was eventually moved on with officers arresting three males aged 14, 16 and 21 who were taken to Maroubra Police Station.
The 14-year-old boy was charged with malicious damage and breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old male was charged with resisting arrest, offensive behaviour and failing to comply with police direction.
He was refused bail and will also appear at a Children’s Court on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old man was charged with resist officer in execution of duty and assault police in execution of duty.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.
A number of cars parked in Arden Street sustained damage during the incident.
