A brazen teenage trio stole a $184 pair of shoes under the noses of unsuspecting store clerks after an adult ringleader gave the signal.
Two boys and a girl entered Ugg King on a Gold Coast mall on Wednesday night, one of them taking a selfie with the man before they split up to wander around the store.
After a few minutes the man signaled to his teenage crew and they headed for the shoe aisle while he distracted the only staff member.
The man asked to look at a purse and put some of his money inside to test it, but then said his hands weren't very good and he needed help putting the cash back in his wallet.
Meanwhile the teenagers grabbed a pair of size 7 sheepskin-lined sneakers worth $184 and swiftly ripped off the security tags and kicked them under a coach.
One of the boys then stuffed the stolen shoes down his pants and all three walked out of the shop - the whole heist taking less than six minutes.
The theft was reminiscent of the gang Oliver Twist falls in with in the classic Charles Dickens novel, where older criminal Fagin leads a group of boys in petty crimes.
'[The adult was] leaving the teenagers to do it so if they do get caught I think they get off with a slap on the wrist pretty much,' owner Tito Gonzalez said.
'When they saw the opportunity they were certainly very well rehearsed.'
Mr Gonzalez thought they probably hit other shops in the outdoor Surfers Paradise mall and encouraged other owners to check their stock and camera footage.
