A robber clad in an oversized jacket and carrying a knife and jerry can has been caught on camera in a deadlock with armed police officers.
The 23-year-old man stormed a pharmacy on Toorak Road, St Kilda, on Monday during peak-hour and began threatening staff and showing his weapons.
A witness at the scene managed to remove the man from the chemist and the police were called, reports 3AW.
He fled into nearby Cunningham Street before the Critical Incident Response Team arrived to negotiate with the 23-year-old.
Busy Chapel Street and surrounding areas were closed for more than two hours as police and the response team talked the man into dropping his knife and jerry can full of liquid.
The man has been taken into custody and is cooperating with police but no charges have been laid.
