Comedian Chelsea Handler debated conservative pundit Tomi Lahren at Politicon over the weekend and cited three Democratic countries, Japan, Sweeden, and Finland, as examples of socialism working.
“There are socialist countries that are highly functioning. Look at Tokyo, which is not socialist per se, but look at Japan…look at Finland, look at Denmark, look at Sweeden. People are socialist…and they are killing it,” Handler told Lahren during a back and forth about socialism.
According to The Economist Intelligence Unit (The EIU) annual Democracy Index, which “provides a snapshot of the state of democracy worldwide for 165 independent states and two territories,” all the countries Handler cited rank higher than the United States of America, meaning they are more democratic.
Finland, Denmark, and Sweeden all rank in the top ten according to the EIU’s study while Japan clocked in at 20.
