WARNING: Graphic images. The terrifying encounter was captured on the officer's bodyworn camera and shows him lying on the floor and screaming in pain as the dog attacks
This is the terrifying moment a brave police officer is attacked by an out of control dog in the line of duty.
The officer's harrowing screams can be heard in the disturbing footage after the person suspected of being the owner of the dog set him to attack the cop.
The terrifying encounter was captured on the officer's bodyworn camera and shows him lying on the floor and screaming in pain as the dog attacks.
The officer, who was left with deep wounds to his leg, had to Taser the dog as it clung on to his thigh.
The unnamed policeman had pulled up in his patrol car and spotted Michael Foster riding his bike with his dog chasing behind.
But as the officer jumped out and chased the 22-year-old suspect, he dropped the bike and started to run.
The policeman shouted at Foster to stop and manages to grab his coat as Foster's dog barked aggressively.
Instead of grabbing the dog as instructed by the officer, Foster ran behind a vehicle.
The dog jumped up and bit the PC on his left thigh and wrist, forcing the cop to use his taser to get the dog off him.
It then ran off and has not been traced as the officer limped back to his car to wait for back up, before being treated in hospital for his injuries.
Foster, of London, was arrested later that day on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Monday to two years and five months in jail.
Sergeant Craig Martin, from Barnet's Gangs Unit, said: "Foster used his dog as a weapon to facilitate his escape from a drugs search.
"The attack resulted in the officer receiving serious injuries, which needed hospital treatment.
"No officer should be attacked for simply carrying out their duty and dogs should never be used as a weapon.
"Anyone who thinks it is okay to injure an officer or use a dog inappropriately will be brought to justice."
