Horror crash kills four in early morning fog carnage when two trucks ploughed into multiple cars

A horror crash has killed four people and injured several others when two trucks ploughed into smaller vehicles in early morning fog.



Shocking video shows the carnage on the Cairo to Alexandria Desert Road early on Sunday morning in Egypt as multiple vehicles were involved in the deadly crash.



Shrill alarms sound in the footage as people run between burning piles of debris and crashed vehicles in very thick fog.



A man standing on the road waves for help but he is then hit by a van driver who did not see him in the dense, murky fog.



The force of the blow flung his body into the air like a ragdoll but miraculously he can be seen getting to his feet again moments later as other people rush to his aid.



Crowds dart around the road, trying to help the injured as the chaos intensifies before the video which was shot by a witness, cuts out.



Ahmed Al-Ansry, head of the Ambulance Authority, said that 20 ambulance crews were sent to the accident and transported victims to hospital.



Most of the injuries sustained were fractures and concussions, AhramOnline report.



Egypt’s General Department of Traffic said that two trucks hit a number of cars which caused the initial accident to occur, as reported by Egypt Independent .



Early morning fog is common in Egypt during winter and warnings have been issued by the government and news organisations to drivers to be cautious.



Hours before Sunday's fatal collision, several other road accidents were reported amid early morning fog, including another multi-car pile-up which injured 22 people on Saturday.



Deadly road crashes are common in Egypt. In 2015, there were 25,500 road fatalities, while the total number of car accidents was 14,500, according to a study published by the official statistics body CAPMAS in August 2016.
