A new army recruit was saved miraculously by his instructor after dropping a live grenade during a training exercise.
The soldier was at a camp in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, central China , when the near miss happened.
Footage shows the recruit and his trainer leaning over the top of a trench when a small puff of smoke appears near his hands.
He is seen immediately ducking down but his quick-thinking trainer is seen pulling him aside into a hole.
