A hit-and-run drunk driver who crashed his Mercedes into a crowded Indian takeaway has avoided jail.
Aamir Patel blamed a homeless man for crashing the £22,000 car, which had been a gift from his parents.
The aircraft engineer, 25, apologised in court for bringing "cultural shame" to his devout Muslim family
Patel knocked back vodka with Fanta juice after he finished his shift at work then drove the 50 miles home.
But as he was about to pick up a takeaway meal, the car swerved out of control and ploughed into the front of the Naz curry house in Bolton - forcing up to eight customers queuing inside the shop and several outside to duck for cover.
Despite the impact Patel reversed the black Mercedes back out onto the road and roared off, hitting another vehicle from behind before ploughing head on into a Vauxhall Astra car.
Miraculously no-one was injured in the incident.
