WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT Four people, including the two girls, were taken to hospital after the car smashed into pedestrians in the Welsh city in the early hours of this morning
Horrifying footage shows the moment a 'hit and run' driver ploughed through a crowd of revellers in a city centre, leaving two girls with "potentially life-changing injuries".
Four people, including the pair, were taken to hospital after the car smashed into pedestrians in Newport, south-east Wales, in the early hours of this morning.
In dramatic new footage, terrified revellers are captured screaming, jumping back and holding their hands to their heads as they watch the distressing scenes unfold.
At one point in the clip, the blue Ford C Max reverses before suddenly accelerating and hitting what is believed to be a person near the city's The Courtyard nightclub.
Its wheels clearly mount something, causing a loud 'thud'. The car then reverses and drives forwards again, apparently striking the person for a second time.
