Horrified witnesses have told how they were "inches from death" and forced to run for their lives as a massive explosion sparked a raging fireball on the roof of their apartment block .
The blaze was reported at around 4.45pm Monday on top of a Derby city centre building off Friar Gate.
Michael Pieridis told DerbyshireLive the massive explosion went off just two floors above his flat at Norman House.
He said: "It was a massive boom. Everyone ran in fear, we gathered our clothes and our phone and just got out of there.
"We were all desperately banging on doors getting everyone out. It was so scary.
